The charge air cooler is used to reduce the temperature of the intake air. The air is heated due to being compressed by the forced induction device, i.e. turbocharger or supercharger. Cooler air is comparatively denser and contains more oxygen, this supports more efficient combustion. Some systems have a separate cooling circuit to further reduce charge air temperature. The system will have a separate temperature sensor and a cooling fan.
